SUNGLASSES

In 2013 I was on a float trip in San Marcos Texas with my first girlfriend.

At the end of the float she realized that she had lost her nice pair of Chanel sunglasses.

They were all black and had little pearls on them.

Now I don’t know quite what her impetus was to bring them sunglasses, but I also didn’t think much of it because that’s not something I particularly think of either.

Now in that moment when she told me, she lost her glasses-

I knew exactly where they were.

Either it was the marijuana I had just inhaled or something else.

but I had had a vision in my head.

I felt they were underneath a willow tree at a place along the float trip where we had fallen into, and I was so sure I could find them-

I got out of the raft and walked along the river up stream until I found the willow tree.

I dove into the water and felt along the bottom.

It was muddy, but I felt something that could be sunglasses so I grabbed them and swam up.

What I saw

in my hand

was a cheap pair of toy wayfarers sunglasses. 

There was large group of rafts tied together approaching me

I decided to go back under and risk coming up under all of the rafts.

I felt again along the mud

and silt

and clay

And I grabbed something else

When I came out of the water 

What I saw 

In my hand

Lissa's sunglasses.

I went along the banks of the River 

I felt like Superman.

And when I gave them to her

It was like it was no big deal at all

In June of 2015 I was living In Dallas Texas,

I had an experience where I had another vision in my head

I had to go back up stream and dive under another tree

I didn’t quite know what I was to pull up

But I had done it before 

so I knew it could be done

In August 2015

I moved back home to Kansas City

and dove in

but when I swam up to the surface

it was 2017

and I was in LA

And what I had in my hand

Was cheap pair of toy wayfarers.

And so dove again in

I moved back home.

And felt along 

The mud

the silt

and the clay 

And in 2024 I found myself

in Miami, though seemingly feeling

 a different kind of beach 

One where I was there

From the paradise of words

That come out of me

And for whatever reason

It felt like I had found something 

Like I had found

The right pair

To walk them back 

in the name of the beloved

through Christ Jesus name
